The Rotary Club of Motijheel was founded in 1989, with the collective efforts of 14 like-minded Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Dhaka South. It was organized by some enthusiastic members of the society joining hands together to gain closeness among themselves through a club. Initially the members were professional social workers from the surrounding areas of Motijheel. As time progressed, Rotary International simplified the classification structure of the Rotary Club and the source of members of this club began to expand beyond the borders of Motijheel. The first 8 Provisional meetings of this club were held at the office of Rotarian Past President Masih Malik Chowdhury at 36, Purana Paltana and Rotarian Past President Mansoor Ali at 46/A Purana Paltana. The club started as a provisional club after 8 meetings were held to complete the organizational process of the club. Later the club’s ad hoc meetings were held at the office of Rotarian Past President Mohsin Ali at BTMA located at Hadi Mansion, 2 Dilkusha. He served as the GSR and convened the first official meeting after being appointed by the Governor. The Rotary Club of Dhaka Cosmopolitan took over the responsibility of sponsoring the club. The Rotary Club of Motijheel was formally launched in the presence of all. The provisional membership of the club in the International Rotary Association is announced. This period was the tenure year of District Governor Rotarian Abdul Mannan, PHF. The International Rotary Charter reaches the club after holding four meetings on every Tuesday consecutively. Later, after the development of the club, they had been considered as charter members of the club. Rotary Club of Motijheel was recognized as the brilliant Rotary Club of District 328 and later 3280/3281 District. The club’s charter was officially handed over that year i.e. on 18th October 1989. The memory of that grand event held at Hotel Purbani International is still vivid for many like us.
